STEP ONE

Measuring The Room

If you already know the measurements of a room you can use those for laying the room out on graph paper. In most cases, you will scale the room on paper at ¼ inch = 1 foot. If the overall size of a room is 18’6" x 17’6" it will equal 18 ½  squares x 17 ½ squares on the graph paper.  You can measure most rooms with a standard tape measure or you can measure and lay out rooms with an electronic measuring tool. They take instant measurements using harmless sound waves and work in empty or furniture filled rooms without you climbing over furniture or up on ladders. It will prove invaluable in measuring and estimating flooring, wall covering, paint, and window treatments as well as helping you determine what will fit where! Most remodelers and decorators won’t be caught without them.

We picked up this electronic measuring tool at a local home center for under $30.00.  Just point it at a wall across the room, hit the read button and it gives you an exact measurement from wall to wall.  It will also calculate square footage and room volume!
