Brett, sounds like you have a real challenge with your transom window. One option would be 2" wood blinds. You can close them for naps and open them for a night time veiw. We have a 11" x 31" transom window in our New home as well. We chose to have a custom Stained Glass window made to fit the opening. I designed the window and had a local stained glass artist build it for me. The window fits right up against the glass from the inside and it is then held in place with a small molding around the inside. The cost was about $250.00 and it looks great. It's also nice to have something I designed as part of the house.
